Driven to design since a young age, I sewed my first ballgown with the help of my mother and great grandmother at the age of 12 and never looked back.
Where it all began
Unsure of whether or not I wanted to pursue fashion design as a full-blown career, I went the business route instead and obtained my Masters degree from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. While in Europe, I participated in several fashions shows by working behind the scenes, designing my own collections and also modeled, which lead me to a position at the Prada Press Office in London. I became passionate about inspiring others to be fearless with their dressing and have fun.
All of this continued to drive my desire to one day have my own label. I moved back to Texas after five years overseas, got married, started a little blog, and in 2010 an opportunity to start my own clothing line presented itself…the day I found out I was pregnant with my second child…when my first was 9 months old. Within four months I had samples from Bali in hand. I sent out 300 lookbooks that first season and heard back from 7 interested retailers. Three years later, I had an online store, my line was carried in 70 retailers across the United States, I had gone from designing just a spring line to a fall line as well, added in home décor items…and was pregnant with my fourth child. It was time to go big or go home…and I chose to go home. While the tremendous business growth was wonderful, it was too much for me to balance while also being present for my husband and children. Even though I had boxes upon boxes of samples from my yet to be released Spring 2014 collection in my closet at the time, I hit the pause button and stepped out of design to focus on my family.
Four years later, baby #4 is now four, my oldest three are in “big school” and I am seeing my time open up every so slightly more. I am slowly working on another collection of chic and versatile womenswear made with your lifestyle in mind, while once again dipping my toe into the world of blogging. I will, among other things, talk about life – authentically – keep you posted on any design work in the pipeline, share with you the process of our house renovation, have a monthly book to work through and always always be real about the joys and difficulties of parenting. I have missed connecting with my customers and I am very much looking forward to what lies ahead.
